Brazil has a reciprocal visa policy with every country. For example, Argentina does not require Brazilian citizens to obtain visas to visit their country. Citizens from some countries are not required to have visas to visit Rio de Janeiro and can stay up to 90 days. In fact, some do not have to present valid passports for entry, if they are neighboring countries of Brazil. All other countries on the list below need a valid passport. However, these guidelines can change at any time.

Countries with valid passport requirements for Rio de Janeiro visits

The citizens of these countries are exempt from tourist visas, but need a valid passport and can stay up to 90 days. However, they must have business visas for doing business in Brazil. Venezuela citizens can be exempt for only 60 days.

Countries with visa requirements for Rio de Janeiro visits

United States and Canada are some of the countries whose citizens are required to have visas and passports to enter Brazil for any reason. The visa is only valid within 90 days on the date of issuance or it will become invalid to use. The passport must have validity for at least six months or more. More restrictions apply to tourists that are traveling with children, which vary with each country. This is due to Brazil reciprocal visa policy, as mentioned before.

However, applying for Rio de Janeiro Visas is easy. The visa is mailed to you within a month from the Embassy of Brazil. Unfortunately, you cannot apply for a Rio de Janeiro visa at the airport. Airlines will not let you board on their planes, if you do not present a valid visa and passport book. Therefore, it is vital to have all of your documentations with you and ready.
