Rio de Janeiro Entertainment

Now that you’ve decided on Rio de Janeiro as your next travel destination, it would be a good idea to determine what type of Rio de Janeiro’s entertainment you’d like to enjoy during your stay. Rio is loaded with options for everyone, from the patron of the arts to the sports enthusiast. And, of course, if you just want a little rest and relaxation, you can find that in Rio as well.

Cinematic Entertainment in Rio

Rio de Janeiro has joined the ranks of Cannes, Sundance and Venice in hosting an annual international film festival known as Festival do Rio, which runs from the end of September and into October and lasts for two weeks. Various venues throughout the city present national as well as international winning films in addition to seminars and workshops for filmmakers, directors and other film industry workers. Most international movies are in original voice with Portuguese subtitles.

Rio’s Cultural Entertainment Festivals

Festival Panorama de Dança, held during first two weeks of November, is the last leg of a circuit of four dance festivals held throughout Brazil and showcases talented performers from around the world, as well as native Brazilian dancers. During the festival, you will be able to catch dance performances at various locales within the city at a most reasonable price.

To get an authentic taste of Brazilian dance and music, the Plataforma Show is a must see. You may take the tour with dinner at the Plataforma Restaurant or just take in the show, which features native Brazilians dancing to the percussive beat of drums, together with capoeira exhibitions (a form of martial arts combined with dance), and ending with a scaled-down version of an authentic carnavale parade.

Samba City, one of the newer tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro, is a great place to learn all there is to know about Carnaval, from how the floats are constructed to learning how to dance the samba. Samba City is open year round, so you don’t have to wait until February to experience the beauty and splendor of Carnaval.

Sports Entertainment in Rio de Janeiro

Soccer is to sports fans in Rio as Carnaval is to dancers, and the mecca for soccer matches in Rio de Janeiro is Maracana Stadium. Open year round, you can catch a match most any time of the year, except during the summer holiday, from early in December through January.

Rio de Janeiro has so much to offer in the way of entertainment, so be sure that you schedule enough time on your vacation to experience it all.
