There is plenty to see and do in Rio de Janeiro. The Cariocas (the name associated with the local people) are very friendly with perfect strangers; so don’t be shy, join in the fun and excitement that Rio’s nightlife has to offer.
Nightlife in Rio
The nights in Rio de Janeiro are full of life. There are places in Rio to satisfy any taste or age group. In the city, there are many good pubs, discos, and nightclubs worth considering. There are even movie houses and theaters (like Teatro Municipal) for those who would rather enjoy Rio’s night listening or seeing a show, classical music, ballet, or an opera.
Bars and Cafes in Rio
There are several street bars (known as botequins) in the downtown area (commonly referred to as Centro by the locals) to enjoy a drink. While in Rio, why not try a shot of Cachaça or Caipirinha (which is the Brazilian national drink and cocktail). At the Academia da Cachaça (www.academiadacachaca.com.br), for example, one could sample Cachaça; it is a Brazilian type of rum made from sugarcane. Besides this drink, there are other delicious alcoholic beverages as well.
Discos and Dancing in Rio
If you are interested in dancing nights while in Rio de Janeiro, try the dance club Fosfobox (www.fosfobox.com.br). It has a nice dance floor and there are sofas to sit, drink, relax, and socialize. For an upscale dance club, try Baronneti (www.baronneti.com.br). It’s a bit expensive to get in, but it has two floors for dancing and the necessary space to move around freely without being too crowded. For Rio’s gay crowd, there is Dama de Ferro (www.damadeferro.com.br), or the lesbian disco called Acesso.
Nightclubs in Rio
In the downtown area, Rio de Janeiro is famous for gafieira clubs. Places like Lapa offers samba (the most popular musical genre in Brazil). If you prefer rock-type music, then, the dance club Bunker 94 may be the right place to enjoy your nights in Rio. If seeking a gay club, Le Boy, is a popular place in Rio to spend an evening. It plays South American Techno music and has go-go dancers performing for the crowd.
With so much nightlife fun and entertainment in Rio de Janeiro, tourists will likely enjoy their stay and want to return again and again.
