Take a Plane
The fastest way to arrive in Rio from further away destinations is by plane. Galeão International Airport is located only 20 Kilometers form down town Rio de Janeiro. There are buses from the airport that transport mainly tourists to popular hotels and beaches for R$6.50 per ticket. If you are taking a taxi from the airport make sure to look for a yellow taxi with a blue stripe. Also, exit the terminal before you catch a ride to save about R$20 on cab fare. The taxies inside the terminal are more expensive. Taking a plane to Galeão International Airport is the most popular way to arrive in Rio de Janeiro.
Take a Boat
If you want an awe-inspiring first impression when you set eyes on beautiful Rio de Janeiro arrive from the ocean for a spectacular view of the coast. The coastline is beautiful and you just can not see in the same way from land. Christ himself seems to welcome you with open arms from atop Corcovado Mountain. Take a cruise to get there and arrive in Rio de Janeiro by sea.
Travel by Road
There are three great ways to arrive in Rio de Janeiro by road. The bus is an adventurous way to travel cheap. They may be less personal than a taxi but are a great choice when traveling on a budget. The long distance bus station is located in the north district. From there you can catch a local bus to anywhere in the city. Local bus fare may be as little as R$2.20 but busses with air conditioners may cost a little extra. Traveling by bus is an inexpensive way to arrive in Rio de Janeiro.
The Train
Central Station in Rio de Janeiro is impressive. Its grandeur might warrant a visit but you will probably not use this as a means of transportation. It mostly serves locals for their every day commute.
However you choose to travel and whatever the reason is a great time awaits you in Rio. Just remember that it is not always just about the destination but in the way that you get there.
